ABOUT US

The roots of Methodism in the Big Sandy and Turkey Creek area date back to the preaching of Bishop Francis Asbury.  Bishop Asbury recorded in his journal that he preached to over 500 people in our area in the early 1800s, in Methodist churches and at the Leicester Camp Meeting grounds, now home of the Leicester Community Center. Many of the founding families of Big Sandy United Methodist Church, some of whom date back to the revolutionary war, still have descendants in the church.

OUR VISION

Our vision is to be a faithful, vital presence of the Living Christ in our community. We seek to inspire, inform and involve all persons in being the Body of Christ. Our vision is a community of transformed lives that shares love, care, peace and joy with all persons.

WHAT WE DO

We gather to worship, to study, and to serve our neighbors.  We love because Christ first loved us.

OUR COMMUNITY

Our church is set in some the most beautiful mountain settings in Western North Carolina. Many parishioners are involved in agriculture and a number of others are employed in Asheville. A value we cherish is being open and welcoming to everyone we meet.
